I upgraded to the latest PhpBB but unfortunately it means I have to recreate the skin. I also removed the wiki from flatland since it really was not being used.

pow, i've just confirmed this morning that the upgrade isn't stopping spam. isn't there something we can do?

otherwise, i'd say to lock the forum down...no new members...until we start using it again.

i'd also like the capability to ban certain members cause some spammers are coming back over and over again, like ryan_glt3.

nothing new in the admin to limit spam - shoot

i made so new members have to be approved by admin

i also removed accounts of all the new spammers - as they come back on the forum i will remove their accounts one by one

thanx, pow. i thought they were still getting thru but i see only people who registered awhile ago are posting.

gee, your mailbox must be getting stuffed when i see all the spammers that tried to register just today. maybe you should get a separate email just for admin.

i won't delete any more, so you'll know which ones to take off the member list.

it's a shame the skin was removed, too, but worth it to get rid of all those spammers. is it a big project to add it back in again?

Hi Pow,
a couple of days i wondered what was going on here!
Its a real pain that people have nothing better to do with their sad little lives than post the junk they have been doing here.

Myself i use the admin access to our site forum for the para-club. The difference between yourself and i is that you will have no idea who is trying to get into the forum and you will let some idiots in yourself.

Me when people ask to join the forum, they are informed that they need to use their federation licence N° to join which i then verify on the Federation intranet DB. I get their name age date of birth address, the total, and then i let them in (or not).
I still get morons trying, but its easy to spot when they dont use their licence N° so ive no need to even check for requests that use a licence N° such as "jackinabox" oe what ever!

Me i still have some original artwork (.psd), logo etc let me know if you need anythin and i will have a look through my old files.
,

i doubt he'll have any problems determining the spammers. if you'll check the member list you'll see they all use completely ridiculous names.

it's working, pow! not a one got in overnight. YAY!! Very Happy

much better - not, as Magici@n pointed out, I just have to figure out a way to let legitimate people in. I think i can add a message in the confirmation screen that says "email me at blah to complete your registration" - i bet all the spammers are bots so they wont read the message

true about the ridiculous names kira, similar to when people don't use their Licence N° at the para forum, and true about the bots Pow.

I guess your right about a confirmation email and its great news that none got in last night.

One idea if you have'nt thought about it, is a forum change.
We use the simple machines forum. Ok i did a straight install and had no need to convert, but this thing will let you install it and then convert the phpbb to it. You would have to read up a bit.

One of the fonctions that could be usefull is the internal news sections that you can use to display on the forum interface.
You can still use admin athentication for new users of course, and the number of other fonctions is just great.
It could be a bit of a pain to do but i seriously recommend and prefer simple machine to phpbb.

Just a thought.

http://www.simplemachines.org

This will take you to the converter page.

I had wondered what had happened too, but some how I overlooked this post.

I'm glad you took the wiki down POW. it was just full of porn and pill links. no way to clean them out. it was a good idea but I think if we try again, it should be locked to all but trusted members.

When I click my link to flatland, com I get a blank page esxcept for one line that says Flatland.com on it.
Did the site move, or was it removed? How can new people download Rover without a link to the download page? Am I missing something?

looks like the .com to .net redirect is back in place - so are the Rover download pages and files ... not sure about spots.flatland.com yet ...
